The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has stressed the need for a unified and coordinated approach among security agencies to effectively address Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.
This position was made known in a statement issued by Appolonia Anele, Acting Director, Army Public Relations, following the maiden familiarisation visit of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to Army Headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday.
During the visit, the IGP underscored the importance of strengthened collaboration and sustained inter-agency synergy between the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Police Force in tackling internal security threats across the country.
He commended the long-standing partnership between both institutions, describing it as crucial to the achievement of national security objectives, and expressed appreciation for the Army’s role in training Police Mobile Force personnel to enhance operational effectiveness.
The police chief also assured of continued intelligence sharing and operational coordination to strengthen joint efforts in addressing security challenges nationwide.
Responding, the COAS congratulated the IGP on his appointment as the 23rd Inspector General of Police and reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to deepening inter-agency cooperation in line with his command philosophy.
He recalled their shared experience during service at the United Nations Mission in Darfur, noting that it provided a solid foundation for collaboration in complex operational environments.
The Army chief further acknowledged the support of the Police in ongoing operations, particularly in Kogi, Kwara and Niger states, where joint operations against banditry and kidnapping have recorded notable successes.
He reiterated that sustained unity and coordination among security agencies remain key to achieving lasting peace and stability across the country.
