In 2015, Janine Roberts was at the very beginning of her entrepreneurial journey.
With a clear vision to build a sustainable food packaging business, Janine participated in the 2015 Tony Elumelu Foundation Entrepreneurship Programme, where she received US$5,000 in non-refundable seed capital, business management training and mentorship to kickstart her company, Ukama Holdings.
That early support laid the foundation for what would become Ukama Packing Solutions, a food packaging factory based in Cape Town, South Africa.
Today, Janine’s business generates over US$132,000 in revenue, employs 30 full-time staff, and helps feed more than 500 people daily across communities in Cape Town. Her journey came full circle when our Founder, Tony O. Elumelu, CFR, visited Ukama Packing Solutions, witnessing firsthand how a single opportunity can grow into sustainable jobs, thriving businesses, and lasting community impact. Watch the video of our Founder’s visit to Janine’s business here.
