Bosun Tijani, one of President Bola Tinubu’s ministerial nominees, has drawn public attention for comments he made against former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2020.
In an April 19, 2020 tweet (X post), Tijani condemned the then president, saying, “Doing everything possible to keep Buhari in power is nothing but a disservice in my opinion and that makes you a dishonest person.”
The full tweet read, “The honest men and women around Buhari should help us understand why they will give their lives for a sick and disconnected man to rule Nigeria. At all cost. Please explain how Buhari is qualified to lead a nation like Nigeria. Please help us understand.

His tweet came two days after the death of Abba Kyari, Buhari’s chief of staff. On April 19, 2020, the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) threatened to sue Buhari over plans to cut the basic healthcare budget amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Meanwhile, on June 2, 2022, while addressing All Progressives Congress (APC) delegates in Ogun State, Tinubu boasted about how he played a key role in bringing Buhari into power.

He said when Buhari had given up on becoming president, he (Tinubu) went to him to convince him to contest.
Tinubu said, “If not for me that led the battlefront, Buhari wouldn’t have won. He contested first, second and third time, but lost. He even said on television that he would not contest again.
“But I went to his home in Katsina. I told him ‘you will contest and win, but you won’t joke with the matter of the Yoruba.’”
