The Licensed Electrical Contractors Association of Nigeria (LECAN) felicitated Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike on his 58th birthday, noting that he is “replicating the good works he did in Rivers State as a governor in the nation’s capital.” In a recent press briefing held in his Abuja office, LECAN National President High Chief Vitus Ofodum, Ikenga Mbosi, and the CEO of Vitec Engineering Company Limited praised God for Wike’s good health and “gift of ability to deliver at all times,” praying for “abundant and fulfilled life for him.”
Ofodum highlighted Wike’s “Mr. Project” reputation, emphasizing that since assuming the FCT portfolio in August 2023, the minister has focused on completing abandoned projects and launching new ones—particularly in road networks, water supply, and security infrastructure. “He is replicating the good works he did in Rivers State as a governor in the nation’s capital,” Ofodum asserted, urging Wike to “keep the pace” of delivery.
Among the projects cited as having immediate impact are Arterial Road N5 (Obafemi Awolowo Way) – Phase 1 from Life Camp Junction to Ring Road III, inaugurated by President Bola Tinubu in June 2025. The road eased traffic congestion around Life Camp, Dape, Gwarinpa, Kado, Karsana, Idu and Mbora, cutting travel times for thousands of commuters.
Another flagship project is the Kabusa‑Ketti Road (9.8 km), flagged off in 2024, linking Kabusa to Ketti and featuring solar‑powered streetlights. Residents report quicker access to farms, markets and emergency services, alongside a noticeable reduction in dust‑related health issues.
Ofodum also pointed to the Saburi 1 & 2 access road (5 km), completed in early 2025, which connects Murtala Mohammed Expressway to Dei‑Dei International Market. Locals credit the road with ending chronic dust and mud problems, boosting business patronage (e.g., car‑wash, “akara” sellers) and increasing daily vehicular flow from ~20 to over 100 vehicles per day.
In addition, Mabushi road (ILS 11 & MAR 24) was commissioned in September 2025, improving circulation in Mabushi District and shortening travel times for residents and traders. Complementing these road works, solar‑powered streetlights (“Light Up Abuja”) were deployed across key districts—Maitama, Asokoro, Wuse, Garki, Katampe, Jabi, Gudu, Central Business District and the Airport Expressway—enhancing night‑time safety and reducing crime risk.
The Ikenga Mbosi further noted water supply expansion to satellite towns in Bwari and Karu, launched alongside the 2025 road projects, which increased potable water delivery to households previously reliant on irregular sources. Judicial infrastructure upgrades—judges’ residential quarters in Gishiri and a Court of Appeal complex in Dakibiyu, Jabi District—were also completed in 2025, providing secure housing for judicial officers.
In closing, Ofodum reiterated LECAN’s call for Wike to “continue to go about his lawful duties with the fear of God and total adherence to the law,” underscoring the association’s confidence that the minister’s ongoing projects will continue to transform Abuja’s infrastructure landscape.
