On September 30, policemen in the Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State gained entry to a residence in Umuodu Community with the intention of arresting a lady.
Bearing arms, the policemen tried to drag her out of her apartment and into their vehicle, but she and her siblings resisted. There were at least four policemen present.
When the unidentified lady resisted, a man in mufti began swinging his fists to hit her face and abdominal area. Another policeman threw punches her way as well.
While the assault was ongoing, a witness captured it on camera.

Some sources speculate that the police were trying to arrest her over a security levy, but the Anambra State police’s position on the matter is different.
FIJ shared the video with Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Police Command, and he told us he had escalated it to the DPO of the policemen’s station.

Shortly after, he explained to FIJ that someone had made a complaint against the lady, and this person was the complainant who threw the first punch before the policemen joined in.
He did not provide information on the specifics of the complaint, or who the assaulted lady was.
In a statement made available to FIJ, Ikenga said, “The lesson to learn from the clip is to avoid unnecessary arguments and don’t be confrontational with armed officers. You can seek redress when you feel that your rights have ever been infringed upon when you get to the station. Meanwhile, the case has been resolved and the behavior of the officers involved addressed.”
